Layers in the Peace Machine turns several rooms of Oulu City Hall into a collective apparatus. Visitors’ words, gestures, sounds, and movements alter a work that treats peace not as a settled condition but as a fragile, revisable practice. Drawing on Timo Honkela’s research, Ekho Collective shifts technological utopia toward bodily experience: the interface does not resolve conflict; it makes tangible the labor of listening, memory, and negotiation on which coexistence depends. The public therefore does not simply observe a “peace machine”; for a time, it becomes one of its mechanisms.
