At the Saudi pavilion of the Venice Biennale, Dana Awartani spreads out handmade earthen patterns. The installation evokes endangered architectural heritage across the Arab world and the knowledge of craftspeople who transmit its forms.
Without binders, the elements crack as they dry. The geometric design holds its own fragility: preserving a memory does not mean keeping matter still.
