A metal cube fitted with arms and hands hangs from a machine that moves it, lifts it and brings it back to the floor. In Body Sculpture, movement gives a faceless object a bodily presence. Its gestures shift between apparent autonomy and mechanical dependence: viewers recognise a body while also seeing its chains and control apparatus.

The artist
Born in the United States in 1980 and based in Los Angeles, Jordan Wolfson works with video, sculpture, installation and performance. His animatronic works confront viewers with relationships between images, machines and bodily experience.
