Nearly 75,000 small bamboo and Japanese-paper kites form a suspended landscape at SFMOMA. Colours and patterns gather and disperse, turning the gallery into a volume through which the eye travels.
The work lets us consider an image as an environment: no viewpoint captures the whole. Repeating a modest element produces a bodily experience of scale.
