Mariah Robertson – Chemical Reactions: Photography without a Camera

In her darkroom, Mariah Robertson works with chemical reactions rather than a camera. Developer, fixer and water produce unpredictable colours on light-sensitive paper. Unfurled as long, unframed ribbons, these images also become sculptures. Art21’s film reveals a practice in which accidents are not erased: they open up new possibilities for what a photograph can be.
