Miguel Rothschild gives the photographic image a paradoxical thickness and weight. In Undercurrents, the sea becomes a suspended surface: the threads holding it up expose how the illusion is made. Looking shifts between landscape and construction, attraction and threat. Photography no longer simply represents an outside world; it physically positions us before an image whose apparent stability depends on an almost invisible network.
