Twenty candelabras turn the gallery into an interior under tension. In Waterloo!, Christopher K. Ho combines metal, counterweights and everyday objects above a rug reproducing barricade imagery by Delacroix and Vernet. Domestic comfort sits alongside the signs of insurrection.
Our reading: the provocation lies in this proximity between decoration and conflict. What happens to a revolutionary image when it becomes the floor of an exhibition? The installation relocates politics within objects, the movement of bodies and the hierarchies of the art space.
