Artificial palm fronds row without going anywhere. In Unruly Vessel, salvaged wellness machines stubbornly keep working: their movement draws us in, then its persistence becomes unsettling. When does caring become a form of discipline?
Rachel Youn, born in the United States in 1994, combines used appliances and synthetic plants to give this ambiguity a physical presence. Developed following a Venice residency, the exhibition connects these repetitive gestures with local histories of labour and confinement.
