Doris Salcedo, Untitled (2003) – Istanbul Biennial

For the 8th International Istanbul Biennial, Doris Salcedo filled an urban void with around 1,500 wooden chairs, creating a monumental installation embedded within the city itself. The work transformed absence, accumulation, and architectural rupture into a haunting reflection on conflict, displacement, and collective memory.
