Walking on the Wall (1971) overturns an elementary convention: harnessed dancers walk horizontally across a vertical surface. Gravity remains visible but no longer organises the body and the gaze on its own; the Neue Nationalgalerie’s glass façade becomes floor, stage and moving drawing at once.
The Trisha Brown Dance Company restaged this historical work during PERFORM! 5 at the Neue Nationalgalerie, Berlin, Germany, from 9 to 13 September 2026. Trisha Brown (1936–2017), a major figure of Judson Dance Theater, expanded choreography towards everyday movement, architecture and gravitational devices. The Reel, posted from the performance on 13 September 2026, directly shows the Berlin restaging.
