Polished gears turn amid long strands of hair. The mechanism gradually makes its own obstruction: material that recalls a living head becomes knotted within a metal structure. UJOO+LIMHEEYOUNG turns this conflict between bodily material and mechanical repetition into a sculpture whose operation threatens to bring it to a halt. Does the machine control its material, or become trapped by its own movement?

Location: Transfer + Resistor (Poetic Devices, Device Poetics), 8th Device_art festival, Museum of Contemporary Art (MSU), Zagreb, Croatia, September 29–October 27, 2026. The work dates from 2015; the artists published this archival video on July 23, 2017. The photograph shows a presentation at The Lowry in 2017. Kontejner’s September 25, 2026 post depicts this same mechanism.

Artists: Based in Seoul, the South Korean duo UJOO+LIMHEEYOUNG has worked together since 2004. Their kinetic sculptures, drawings and interactive videos explore the absurdity of reality.
